File size: HEIC files are already efficiently compressed: JPG output may be 20–50% larger than the source HEIC at 85% quality.

Quality: By default we convert at 90% JPG quality, adjustable from 60 to 100. HEIC supports 10-bit color; JPG is 8-bit, so extremely subtle gradients in night photos may show very minor differences.

Why does my iPhone take HEIC photos?

Apple switched to HEIC in iOS 11 to halve photo storage requirements. HEIC uses H.265 compression, achieving the same visual quality as JPG at half the file size.

Why can't Windows open HEIC files?

Windows requires the HEVC Video Extensions codec (paid, from the Microsoft Store) to open HEIC. Converting to JPG avoids this requirement entirely.

Will my photo's location data (EXIF) be preserved?

Basic EXIF metadata including camera model and capture date is preserved. GPS coordinates may or may not be preserved depending on your iPhone's privacy settings.

How is image quality affected?

By default we convert at 90% JPG quality (adjustable from 60 to 100): the result is visually indistinguishable from the original HEIC for most photos. HEIC supports 10-bit color depth; JPG is 8-bit, so very subtle gradients may show minor banding.
