The problem is that opening RAR files requires WinRAR or 7-Zip: macOS and most Linux systems cannot open RAR natively, and many file sharing platforms reject .rar uploads. Converting to ZIP gives you an archive that opens on every operating system without any extra software: Windows Explorer, macOS Finder, and Linux file managers all handle ZIP natively.
File size: ZIP uses DEFLATE compression which is slightly less efficient than RAR. The resulting ZIP may be 5 to 15 percent larger than the source RAR.
