When you upload a file to Converthor, it is transferred to our servers over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The file is stored temporarily in an isolated directory on the server while the conversion runs — a process that typically takes 1–10 seconds for most file types.

Once the conversion is complete, a time-limited download link is generated. The original uploaded file and the converted output are automatically deleted from our servers after 1 hour. We do not read, analyze, or transmit the contents of your files to third parties. No file content is ever logged or stored beyond the conversion lifecycle.

We do not require an account or email address to use Converthor. There is no user profile associated with your conversions. Rate limiting is applied per IP address to prevent abuse, but IP addresses are not stored alongside file content.

Before uploading sensitive documents to any online converter — including Converthor — consider the following:

Check the privacy policy. Verify that the service explicitly states files are deleted after conversion. Vague policies like "we may retain files for service improvement" are a warning sign.

Verify HTTPS. Ensure the site uses HTTPS (the padlock icon in your browser). Never upload sensitive files over plain HTTP.

Consider client-side alternatives for highly sensitive files. For files containing personal health information, financial credentials, or proprietary business data, a local conversion tool (LibreOffice, ffmpeg, ImageMagick) means the file never leaves your device. Converthor is suitable for typical personal and business files, but for classified or legally privileged documents, local tools are the safer choice.

Remove sensitive content before converting when possible. If you only need to convert part of a document, consider redacting sensitive sections before uploading.
